Just Lead for Students in Buffalo

Youth leaders of Healthy Kids Healthy Communities (HKHC-Buffalo) are committed to making a change in Buffalo by giving a voice to youth, regarding active living and healthy eating.  They are called Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities – Youth Advisors Council (HKHC-YAC), and student leaders from throughout the city are invited to get involved.

On Thursday, May 9th, HKHC-YAC is hosting a kick-off event, called Just Lead.  Buffalo high school students are invited to come to the event, which is being held at Tapestry Charter High School, 65 Great Arrow, from 4:30-7:30pm.  We are asking area high schools to send three to four responsible students to represent their school at this event.  For a flier to show your students, click here.

This year, the issues the HKHC-YAC group are concerned with are improving school lunch in Buffalo and enhancing NFTA’s student bus passes.  At Just Lead, they will share what they have learned about these issues and recruit other youth to get involved.

Being a part of the HKHC-YAC group is an excellent leadership opportunity for teens.  The group works with the HKHC-Buffalo Partnership, a project of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), which includes adult leaders from throughout the city.  To learn more about HKHC-Buffalo, please visit http://hkhcbuffalo.blogspot.com/.

If you have questions, or to let us know which of your students will represent your school at Just Lead, please contact us by email at hkhcleaders@gmail.com, or call Rebekah Williams, MAP’s Youth Education Director at 882-5327 x6.  To RSVP, you can also request to join our facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/hkhcleader/.
