MAP is THE place to get involved in supporting youth leadership in Buffalo! Apply for the new MAP Your Future Program Coordinator position by Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014. (Application directions are below).
Each year, MAP hires 50 Buffalo high-school students and trains them to work on our urban farm, develop value-added products, and increase food security for the city of Buffalo. In turn, we support MAP’s teenagers in gaining life skills and helping them prepare for their futures. The MAP Your Future Program is a new program that focuses solely on our teenagers futures to prepare them for college, careers and more.
The graduation rate of Buffalo’s high school students is 47%, but in the last ten years 95-98% of youth employed by MAP Growing Green graduated from high school on time and pursued higher education. Although the MAP Growing Green program offers a mentorship type experience that encourages our youth to successfully complete high school, many MAP youth are unfamiliar with the breadth of career paths that they might pursue following high school. Furthermore, over 50% of MAP youth come from immigrant families, their parents may not speak English, and they are the first in their families to pursue higher education.
The new MAP Your Future Program Coordinator will work closely with MAP’s Youth Education Director and the MAP Your Future Program Advisory Board to coordinate a program that prepares MAP’s youth employees in: envisioning potential career avenues; college readiness; college or trade school application processes; and workforce readiness.
We are announcing an exciting opportunity for interested parties to apply for a position as the new MAP Your Futures Program Coordinator for our organization. The MAP Your Futures Program Coordinator position is a full-time VISTA position that will start in August of 2014.
